Jerry, we appreciate what you do, I know a lot of kids look forward to the series accomplishments and awards, and I know you do that out of the goodness of your heart-no financial gain involved, no kids of your own wrestling, just a way to try to keep kids interested and involved. But I beg to differ on another point-I was a much better athlete 35 years ago than now! Ahh...the memories of this time of year, always the bridesmaid, never the bride. Even my failing memory cant convert all those silver medals into gold!

Sam, You knew a bunch of athletes from Thomas. I started every year in Junior High and High School (exept Freshman when we won state) I have played in 5 losing games in my life total. 'Lost once in JH when Clinton had all three Bell brothers 14-6. No, a good part of the teams we beat had superior athletes that few of us could have started on, we played as a team and correctly. 'Most we were ahead 50-0 at half. It was ALWAYS because we played correctly and had to be in shape to go both ways. In the whole state in '61 there were 6 blue chip players (all cl@sses) and 2 were on our little team, but those were superior athletes plus they played correctly. 'Not bragging, just bristle when someone questions I don't know how to dig down and pull it out.

My3Sons.....your very welcome.....hes a great kid....I'm down for reno, cant wait......ya know i said his natural weight was 46, well it was all year almost until i signed him up for state then he hit a frickin growth spurt...lol...i had to pull a pound and half off him the night before....his mom had him 5 days before and i about died when I weighed him....such as life....and in Reno he has to go 49 and beat Dylan Mays or he will take a back seat o the all-star team....."dangit".....O well it'll be fun....where are you guys staying?

Sie- I just got all of the flights figured out (5 of us going) lol and got my car rented today. I am not sure where we are staying. We stayed at the Eldorado last year and I think most wrestlers did, there is a circus circus in there. But I am looking to do something different this year....But I dont have a plant yet.

2gsmom There are several clubs running Freestyle/Greco programs. These will generally run from mid March through May. Some run a little longer for national competition. As far as OKC Metro goes Matrix Grappling (Mustang) and OK Elite (Norman) are two very good clubs. Westmoore also has a good set of coaches. Not sure if Generals are doing Freestyle. I think Berryhill does Freestyle, but not sure. Judo is also a very good option. Local tournaments are a little more laid back than wrestling, so it is a good way to keep them on the mat without burning them out. Matrix Grappling (Mustang), OKCDT (Edmond), and USA Stars (Moore) are very good clubs in OKC Metro. Matrix and OKCDT being best option for wrestlers. Tulsa Judo Club is the best in Tulsa. Hope this helps.

"Just saying," it would be nice to have some results from our Oklahoma State Championships. Is there some reason why we can't have results 9 days later. This is a simple thing......There are so many tournaments that haven't even posted results in regular season. This is so bad that I'm seriously considering Nationals only next year.....that is where the real competition is anyways......Im sorry but my sacrifice and my sons blood, sweat and tears deserve more.

Don did a great job with OKWA State. All that takes a ton of organization and maybe some of the brackets weren't kept and results can't be posted. You don't know how many times things like that have happened elsewhere. Not sure how posting the results from the entry's for State works either and that might be a hold up. Yes, rsults are neededed but there are a lot of things that might be holding things up and after an event is over it's very hard to get people to do things.

SIE, I will not get into the pro's and con's (not that was what you were doing). Terry is keeping it going as best as possible, but, anyone not involved totally with all aspects of computers is at the mercy of 2 things. 1. People with an agenda to get/have their personal goals who will tell you things to achieve their goals. 2. Programmers who don't want to do things or cant, but either way, programming "used" to cost $100 /hr with 1 hr minimum. Any and all things will eat up money available. On here people cold give results if they were missing but a forum like this will also be the last thing added, so there is a lot of ressons things were 'different' and it's up to individuals to decide better or worse (I gurantee there would be many on both sides) but that desn't matter, IT AIN'T HERE AND WILL NOT BE so it's not even a choice. Believe it or not, I still have WAAAY too little time to do things I want to do.

Yea, Jerry that was not aimed at you in any way. I own a Marketing company and we build websites, apps for phones, we build games etc. The bottom line is if there is a problem someone email me and I'll have it fixed in an hour.....this is elementary and not knowing the exact problem; I'm guessing here, but I suspect it just hasn't been loaded yet. Everyone is concerned about the level of wrestling plunging in Oklahoma and these things are why. There are results from the first of the year not posted, however some tournaments had there's posted the next day. "WHY?" Is this not enforceable? We don't want to start losing our top 5% wrestlers to traveling the USA circuit where its all real time and documented, I think the Board of Directors do a great job and this needs to be treated like a business. What happens when a business doesn't perform? It fails!!! Or at least like champ 27 said; "why"? That would be cool to know. Ok I'm done making people mad now...lol...but I know there are a lot of kids and parents that are wanting to scout these results for the next remaining tournaments as well as kids that just want to see there names. peace out:) BTW I Love all of you guys;)...........Just so ya know...

I know when we did the USAOK folkstyle tournament, the trackwrestling.com was nice to keep up with everyone's record and brackets. I don't know if it would work for a regular tournament or how hard it is to use.

Jerry, I am glad to see you still "working hard"! I wish we had been at more tourney's this year. With Clay wrestling HS this yr we didn't have much opportunity. I know he appreciates all the work that goes into the series and loves all of his stuff. Hey all, I just wanted to get the word out about Oklahoma Wrestling Academy. This is an academy that will be open year round for all levels of wrestlers to have a place to practice and learn from some great coaches and clinicians. It is NOT a club and it has no intention of taking away anything from the wrestling clubs that are already in place. The purpose is to give our Oklahoma wrestlers another place to get top notch instruction and supplement what they are already learning from thier current coaches, offering year round instruction. The Fact is the Better wrestlers go to the series tournaments, not in every case but statistically speaking the better talent is at the series tournaments. "Period"....Jerry is correct. It doesn't create the highest caliber of wrestlers but the highest caliber wrestler plays the series to have the best competition available....that is a fact that cannot be argued.

To your point I would agree that better wrestlers go to Series tournament in specific regions (i.e- Central & NW). Personally if we hit a Series tournament it's more by happenstance than any other reason. On smaller open weekends we opt to support our local/regional clubs. Plenty of competition in Vinita rather than driive across state to Clinton. It's a proximity thing for most. Question: Take Div 1... How many Series Champs doubled as Stste Champs?

Wouldn't the question relly be how many Series champs will be State Champs in a few years and it's not even Series champs, how many kids got motivatd by the Series that wouldn't be wrestling right now? Certain mentalities only dwell on CHAMPS, if you wrestled as a kid then take what the level was 14 years ago and tell me what you are doing different today than what was done 14 years ago, .. then, tell me what the level was then and what the level is now and come up with what happened. We had a TON of kids who were not motivated to work from Oct to Feb, they only worked from mid January to state. There were TONS of very good athletes that were not motivated. The Series DID NOT get all of them but, it did motivated a bunch and becasue it did we have a ton more really good wrestlers than we had before. Those are pretty simple facts. I could care less about champs. To win a championship involves, very good timing, BOAT LOADS OF LUCK, not getting sick, not having others weighing 15 lbs more pulling down to your weight at state for a ONE WEEKEND WIN, I could go on and on and .... but why?? You really sound like the early mentality that used to say "Series ain't nuttin", be beat them all the time. OK, my response is, "you'd better or you aren't very good. It was to MOTIVATE THE KIDS WHO WERE NOT MOTIVATED OThERWISE. After a few years those kids were beating those top kids and they've just went up from there.

Union, tell me, who do you speak to day in and day out? are you voicing new inovating ideas or are you just repeating what you hear? I CREATE NOTHING but, what I started in 2001 has offered motivation to a lot of kids that were not motivated otherwise. I challenge you, take 20 words and give the definition of each then ask someone else take those same 20 words and define them. You'll get sixty different versions and definitions.
All the years I taught math or computer science, I did not care so much if a kid added 1 and 1 and got 2. We can simply memorize math tables, I wanted them to think on how to solve the problem and figure out what they didn't have and figure out how to obtain that. It's not a lot different than what we've been talking about.

I agree and please dont mistake me, I think 'all' the tournaments make wrestling better The OKWA is as awesome as is the series but in Division 1 we would have no competition unless we went to a series tournament and we wrestle D.2 every week also. My son won both series and state and took 3rd in D.2. Honestly the real competition is in the National tournaments we go to......in my opinion the state Championship is just another tournament with the same kids we beat every weekend, and it was the same last year. Just a title.....try winning Tulsa Nationals or Ohio TOC.....As for series leaders that won state I'm sure it is the same at every weight....you have some and some new ones.....thats wrestling.....Jerry I think you are spot on.

I was just saying that the coaches, kids, and parents that wrestle, coach, and run these tournaments make or sport better. Its not the brand that you tag them with. Now, mine have a sweat shirt, and they have some shirts that they got from Jerry and they like them. And they love the All State stuff and its real nice that Jerry takes the time to do these things. But that is not our Motivation!

No, im saying that if you take the top elite wrestlers and there parents which im friends with most. We take our kids to the best place to get the best competition, and we all go to the series to get that competition, yes it's all OKWA and yes there are great wrestlers at all the tournaments and we need all of the tournaments. The series isn't about shirts its about all-state, wrestler of the year, super all state, and academic all state as well as giving kids something to work towards and keep them interested. My kid has to keep his grade point at 3.8 and do community service to keep getting his super all-state award. I understand and respect everyones opinion but we need the OKWA and Series to keep everything and everyone happy....or just turn it over to USA (TRACK)Wrestling if the entities cant get a long.

Union, you have your motivation and frankly, what you think is motivation may not be your son's motivation, but what you list is what the motivation was in 2001. There was a couple at each weight that could compete elsewhere and a m@ss of kids that had ability but no motivation. I asked ealier what is it now and what has changed to make the numbers different? yes, we have spirited practices and kids working harder, but, why? If your motivation was all that was needed 13 years ago, why didn't we have the numbers of top kids then?? This is about as simple logic as I can ask. OK, if you want to think some space craft landed and changed things, that makes as much sense as most of any other logic other than, more kids found what motivated THEM and worked harder, making others work harder to keep up, which pushed the few top kids to suddenly work extra to keep up with the kids they had walked on previously. Success breeds success and complacency breeds complacency. We have years of results from complacency, why can't you understand that a good sized group of kids got motivated that were not previously motivated which started the giant ball rolling. If you don't want to give the Series any credit, fine, give it to the club secretary, she probably needs some good treatment. I don't because I "think" my motivation is to do things the absolute best as I can and if I can look in the mirror and not feel I "could" have worked harder, then that's what I need.

To clarify my previous question... I was simply asking how many kids starting with Div 1 generally double up. Win Series and State. The question was out of curiousity for I do not have the answer. It wasn't meant to be an accustion against Series or OKWA. Also, I think with everything going on surrounding this great sport (Olympic exclusion)any support is good support. And on USA wrestling...I've lived through the whole USA thing while residing in KC. Not fun... No desire to go back to that governing body. Nightmare!

Jerry what is your motivation to be involved with wrestling? Have you ever wrestled a match? Have you ever been behind in points and fought back to win in the 3rd period or get the pin in the last seconds of a match? I know for a fact that my kids motivation for wrestling has nothing to do with the series. Again, I think its nice that you do something to recognize the kids for their work and your real organized with this website and all that. But if you stopped what your doing today, we would keep on wrestling! thank you and see everyone in Freestyl/Greco this spring. by the way, not alot of kids and not alot of awards, but if u want to get better this summer wrestle and work hard.

UNION, First. You sir have an attitude. Period.You seem to think wrestling is the only sport where you get those qualities. If it was then NO ONE but wrestlers would ever succeed at anything. No I did not wrestle, we did not have wrestling at my little school, but, Sam McFee can vouch for where I grew up and you sir wouldn't be able to shine the shoes of athletes that I grew up with. ALL adults were MUCH BETTER ATHLETES AFTER THEY GOT OLD ThAN WHEN THEY WERE YOUNG AND COMPETING. You seem to be a perfect example. It all get's back to motivation which sir, you have no clue about. I know, any (and all) kids want attention and if they can't get positive, then they will find negative attention. Since I pay the bills I make the rules and those rules will ALWAYS involve much much more than just wrestling ability, but, those that come through will handle your wrestling only motivated kid every time.

Union, back off! You're making an entire school district look really bad (your ID name). My boys started wrestling in 2001. I lived near Tulsa and I've lived near OKC. The Series is the funnest, most creative part of youth wresting in Oklahoma. When kids come from out of state, they prefer a Series tournament. My boys are in high school now - they're favorite "souvenirs" from the youth days are the shirts and sweatshirts from their Series accomplishments.

Hey it was just a debate. I thought Jerry said "Personally, (and I would debate this with anyone) the Series furnishes OKWA State with a much higher caliber of wrestler" We went to three series tournament and three roller tournaments and three what do you call these i guess OKWA OPEN non series tournaments and did good in OKWA STATE. Not all the placers at state attended series tournaments in our bracket so i have a different opinion and voiced it when asked to debate the topic.
